Position: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Location: New Bedford, MA

Company Information: Plumbers’ Supply Company is a growth oriented, privately held plumbing and heating wholesaler with 19 locations throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire.  Plumbers’ Supply is looking for strong candidate to join the team to assist with general accounting tasks.  The successful candidate needs to be organized and detail-oriented. Additionally, the candidate needs to be a team player with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Controller, the candidate is expected to:

  • Assist with monthly closing procedures, including preparing journal entries according to the month-end closing schedule
  • Responsible for analysis of multiple balance sheet account reconciliations and general ledger maintenance
  • Maintain checkbook and assist in reconciling cash accounts daily, weekly and monthly
  • Maintain fixed assets, including use of fixed asset tracking software
  • Assist with preparation of workpapers for annual review by outside accounting firm
  • Cross train to provide coverage for all other accounting roles (accounts receivable, cash and accounts payable)
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements for management in a timely manner
  • Assist with special projects as directed by management
  • Assist with answering phones and other administrative duties

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience)
  • 5+ years general office experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to navigate the general ledger, including running, interpreting and explaining data both verbally and written
  • Advanced experience with MS Excel
  • Strong knowledge of other Microsoft products (Word, Sharepoint, etc.) is required
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and handle changing priorities
  • Previous distribution experience is a plus
  • Ideal candidate must be detailed oriented, organized, able to meet deadlines and be a team player
